Coach for quiet achievers

who want to be leaders

but work in places with strong opinions & loud voices.

My speciality is coaching introverts & quiet achievers who want to be seen and heard at work without pretending to be extroverts

Being an introvert in a world that desires the extrovert ideal is hard.

For years, I struggled to manage my own introversion. I loved my craft. I had high ambitions. I wanted to excel. So I voraciously read self-help books on leadership. I watched every great TED Talk. I modelled social butterflies at networking events. I watched in awe as company leaders delivered speeches effortlessly.

I thought: if I tried hard enough, I could be just like them.

And it worked! But I was exhausted pretending to be someone else. It always felt unnatural. It felt like I was wearing a mask; and with each passing day, that mask grew heavier and heavier, until I could not put it on anymore.

I thought: maybe there was something wrong with me. Maybe I wasn't good enough. But there was a voice inside of me that refused to give up. There had to be a better way.

So I stopped pretending. I took the best of what I learned and started practising. I kept what worked and made those skills my own.

Since this change, I've been a leader and manager at tech startups. I've been a keynote speaker at conferences and podcasts. I even wrote a book about how I did it.

Today, I am no longer faking it. I am no longer pretending to be someone else. I no longer wear an extrovert mask; and I've coached hundreds of people to do the same.

It's a different path to success, but it is a path I walk very comfortably in my own skin.

My coaching draws upon my decades of experience surrounded by people at work with strong opinions and loud voices. I've made plenty of mistakes along the way; I will help you avoid them.

Life is too short to be living someone else's version of success. Introversion is not a flaw; it's a superpower. My coaching will help you show up as the best version of yourself.

What can I help you with?

  • New quiet leader: You are quiet by nature. You've been made a leader. You're feeling strong imposter syndrome. Every other leader around you is loud and has strong opinions. Your team is looking to you for answers, but you're unsure of what you are doing
  • Self promotion: You do great work and have huge successes but wish you could be more visible and talk about your wins without feeling like you're bragging
  • Talk like a leader: You have the technical skills and the great ideas but you're not confident in convincing others and public speaking
  • Friction with strong opinions: They talk louder, got strong points of view and you don't know how to say no or handle their difficult conversations
  • Thought leader: A major presentation/public talk/event/podcast is coming; you're nervous about speaking in front of a big group and being put on the spot
  • Interview preparation and rehearsal: You got the skills, you got the experience for the job you really want but somehow you never get picked
  • Get promoted: You want to be promoted to a leadership role but your boss says "you are not ready", you feel stuck and you don't know what to do to get there
  • Networking: Meet new people, grow your network, make small talk, introduce yourself with confidence without the icky feeling

Who is this for?

  • You struggle to be seen and heard in a team with loud voices
  • You want to share your great work but talking about them feels dirty and ick. Meanwhile, others who do less and brag more get all the credit
  • You want to be a thought leader but nothing you are trying is working or you don't know where to start
  • You want to move into a leadership role but they keep telling you "you are not ready" and you don't know what to do to level up
  • You want to influence your leaders and peers but don't know align competing interests
  • You are in a player-coach role but struggle to balance both
  • You are a leader/manager for the first time and not sure if you're doing it right
  • You are a leader/manager. You are also an introvert and quiet by nature, and want an advisor who's walked a similar path before
  • The team you manage are so quiet. You wish they spoke up more and you don't know how to get the best out of them

I have experienced every one of these in my career. I can show you how to over come them.

What's it like having me as your coach?

  • I'm an introverted leader I understand what it's like to be quiet by nature and your peers in the room are loud and extroverted
  • I'm not your boss Your boss has many priorities and you are simply one of them. As your coach, you are my only priority
  • Drawing from experience I've coached hundreds of people worldwide. I also have 20 years experience in tech, startups and consulting. I've seen and heard a lot. I can help you navigate scenarios you are experiencing for the first time
  • Limiting beliefs and norms In your bubble, your way has been the only way you know. We sometimes lie to ourselves too to have an easy out. Where I see you do this, I'll point it out and we'll talk about it
  • Tough love You must know I'm pretty direct, low bs and I will tell you the things you need to hear to level up. I will do it with kindness and good humour
  • Private and confidential Everything you tell me stays with me. You will never hear your name online, your boss and peers will never know

Tim is extremely approachable with practical tactics to drive success. Most importantly, I got the feeling Tim has been in my shoes before many times as a designer.

The Leadership for Introverts course provided me with easy-to-apply tools to boost my confidence and increase my visibility in my org. The bite-sized video format fit perfectly into my hectic schedule.

Patricia Avila

The course’s impact has been nothing short of transformative, especially for an executive like myself. Tim's expertise and clear communication style made the learning experience concise yet comprehensive, focusing on practical skills and a mindset shift tailored for introverts. One standout aspect was the innovative approach to the "tell me about yourself" question. Tim's visual strategy was a breath of fresh air. As an executive, this approach not only enhanced my interview performance but re-framed how I thought about and communicate my career journey.

What people are saying

I went through so many interviews. I had a lot of anxiety back then. I felt like I was too humble when talking about my accomplishments. Tim really helped me with practical advice - which is not easy to find the more senior you get.

Amy Zhu
Senior Product Designer, Assent, Canada

I extended my intro based on the course and I could see by the reactions of the interview panel how effectively it communicated my experience and capabilities and set the stage for the rest of the conversation. This was the single most valuable feedback on presenting work. It's challenged me to assess other areas in the workplace where I may be minimizing important context.

Jennifer O
Staff Product Designer, Buoy Software, USA

This course came at the perfect time when I needed support with interviews. Tim was empathetic, pragmatic, and calm - and gave me advice and examples that I could quickly apply under pressure. He gave me the space to ask questions specific to my circumstances. I highly recommend.
